Not sure how I knew lexington would beat Tanner, i just did. Kudos to Rickie Putman’s team.
Looks like Red Bay is the only team in Bears’ way to region title.
Bob jones is very good offensively. they overpowered florence for most of the night, probably the best team in Region 8. Defense will have to improve for the Patriots to go very far in the playoffs.
Florence is pretty good offensively, too, but doesn’t have the balance of Bob Jones. Huge game for Falcons next thursday at Huntsville.
Colbert Heights looks to be for real at 3-0. Red Bay, too.

best games of the week this week? Bob Jones at Florence, Tanner at Lexington, Lauderdale County at Colbert Heights.
Keep an eye on the Class 3A, Region 8 race this year. I have a feeling it will again go way down on the list of tiebreakers to sort things out. Colbert County and West Morgan obviously have come back to the pack, while Colbert Heights and Lauderdale County should be right in the mix to the very end.
To me, Dale Jefferies at Red Bay is a very underrated coach. He always gets the most out of his teams.
If I’m looking for a local game tonight, i’d probably head to Lauderdale County at Sheffield, Muscle Shoals at Athens or West Morgan at Colbert Heights. Those three look like the most competitive on the schedule. Florence at Buckhorn could be a good game. Another reason to head to Buckhorn would be to stop at dreamland or five guys burgers for pregame meal.
I’m sticking with leeds until somebody beats it.

I moved Hoover to No. 1 ahead of Prattville, which lost to North Gwinnett Ga. That was a tough call. Also, I put Bob Jones at No. 10 after Kevin Rose’s team whipped up on what I thought would be a good buckhorn team.
If Florence wins at Buckhorn, I might move the Falcons into the top 10 next week.
Vigoris a no-brainer at No. 1 in Class 5A. Until it loses, they’ll remain No. 1 on my ballot.
I kept deshler ahead of brooks this week. Almost upsetting Russellville was good enough for me to keep them ahead of the Lions.
I kept Colbert County in the top 10 just because. I’ll give the Indians a pass on losing the opener because I think Muscle Shoals might be the most improved team in the Shoals this season.
I’ve got lexington at No. 10 in Class 2A. I think the Golden Bears have a legitimate shot at winning the region title.
Good matchup this week in Class 1A with Hubbard at Maplesville in a Top 10 game. It wouldn’t shock me to see Chiefs at the Super Six.
Gonna try to take Football 2009 to Muscle Shoals this week. Trojans have a critical region opener at Athens. A win there would be a giant step toward the playoffs.
Brooks takes its opener against Lauderdale County. That’s not a huge surprise. Biggest thing for me is that LCHS scored 26 points. That bodes well for the Tigers this season. Not a win for Bob Grisham in his debut, but a good showing.
This blog will be the all-encompassing blog for high school sports in the shoals. you’ll get opinion, facts and stories — some even true. First, i was an internet sensation for high school football last year. Now, you get the expanded version of a grizzled, sometimes jaded sports writer.
